Sprinkles and Sunrises
After moving to Phoenix from Seattle last week, I was blown away by the three day streak of amazing sunrises and sunsets. I guess that’s something I’ll have to get used to around here!
Another thing I’ll have to get used to is how little it rains! However, We did get some nice sprinkling rain during my second day at ASU. Interestingly the rain and the beautiful skies are somewhat related.
Strong weather systems packed with upper level moisture have been slamming California with heavy rain for days. These systems spread high clouds into Arizona and high clouds = usually great sunrises/sunsets.
This is a model image of upper level clouds at around the same time I took the above picture. There’s lots of it over us!
There’s a handy website that you can use to roughly predict whether or not you are going to see a great sunset. It’s called sunsetwx.com. The warmer colors on the map represent a better chance of seeing a beautiful sunrise or sunset.
We’re not done with the rain yet though. There’s a good chance that we’ll see some more rain this weekend (mostly on Saturday) as an upper level system (think of it as a huge ‘dip’ in the atmosphere drawing in moisture) swings through Arizona.
