Spring Storms Light Up The Skies

Spring Storms Light Up The Skies

What a night!

Following a beautiful spring Monday, evening showers and storms began popping up near Cave Creek. I captured a few shots of the distant lightning.

If that wasn’t enough, ANOTHER storm exploded to the southwest and barreled through town, just south of downtown Phoenix.

Just a few days before, I posted to my Facebook “Uggh. I’m dying to see some storms.” Ask and you shall receive!

These storms were very sudden and difficult to forecast due to an upper-level low that was swinging through the region last night. As I’ve explained before, these are “dips” in the upper atmosphere. The cold air, high winds and suction effect aloft caused these storms to explode and die very quickly.

The latest weather satellite (GOES-16) captured the storms as they bubbled around the region.

We won’t see another system like this until possibly Friday, however it looks to be significantly weaker than last night’s.
