Intense Jet Stream to Slam California and Arizona this Weekend

Intense Jet Stream to Slam California and Arizona this Weekend

Any plans for the weekend? Well you may want to consider the weather forecast first.

Super computers used to forecast the weather are showing a jet stream of 170+mph winds spanning over 3000 miles of the Pacific Ocean. Imagine getting in a plane, flying up to 20,000ft and getting a 150mph kick in the head. That’s what we’re expecting to arrive in California starting Friday.

What does this mean? Firstly, it means a dousing for Southern California. The coasts are expected to get 2 – 4 inches and some coastal slopes could get as much as a foot of rain out there. Here’s a summary of what to expect in Arizona.

  • The first wave of rain arrives late Thursday night. Some snow will fall in the highest peaks of Northern AZ.
  • The rain will clear out during the day Friday, and then the heaviest rain comes in late Friday night. It will be windy in some areas with gusts possibly up to 40mph. Snow will also start dumping in the Northern Terrain.

I’m starting to think that I brought some of Seattle with me when I moved!

Stay tuned to the Phoenix Weather Blog Facebook Page for updates as this storm develops.

  1. Thanks Chris! Glad you decided to pick up a new blog for AZ! We’re over in Tucson for the winter so will just add 2-4 hours to your forecasts! Good luck in school, assume you’re settling in and off to a great start.
